'Unique ways to Display"

Saturday, November 30, 2013

How many of you guys have jewelry at home that's hidden away in a drawer or box? Have you ever thought about finding them a home out in the open? Not only does it make for great room decor but it keeps everything so organized & easy to find. Need that push or inspiration for your pretty things? Well, today I'm blogging about things I have found that allow me to showcase some of my favorite pieces.

Home Goods is my favorite go to store for home decor. Not only are the prices reasonable but you find things in there that big named brand stores carry. Everyone & anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge organizer freak. Hate to admit it but I am. Like that quote "I like my money right where I can see it ….Hanging in my closet."I agree with that 100 percent. I love pretty things displayed in pretty ways. While every girl loves beautiful accessories whats even better is having them to look at. I am constantly changing things up around my home, always thinking of new ways to display my necklaces, rings, bracelets, watches ect. While shopping at  Home Goods one day I saw this & instantly saw my bracelets wrapped around the horns. It is so much fun to think outside the box and come up with ideas that normally people wouldn't. Use your imagination, try to not stick to the normal traditional jewelry boxes everyone uses.
Gotta love a pretty corner. This Apothecary glass vase is a perfect way to store all your bracelets in while allowing to display some of your statement necklaces on the outside. They come in so many different shapes & sizes. Get a pretty ceramic bowl to throw all your rings in and add a picture frame with your favorite note or picture and you have yourself a "pretty little corner". Listed are some super cute ceramic bowls that I found on Etsy (here here or here). Another great idea is to look in the kitchen ware section at stores they always have cute cups or bowls that could be used as well. Hit up those resale shops too they always have unique finds.

This is one of my favorite pieces I've found at Home Goods. When I purchased it , it was solid white, I sanded it down & spray painted him gold because of course anything gold make my heart happy. I have seen these online priced as high as up to $200 bucks (here & here). Scored this guy for a total of $24.99. I have actually seen it in Home Goods recently…it's kinda hit or miss. The one thing with Home Goods is if you see it, you gotta buy it. Even if you are unsure about the item you can ALWAYS return it. If you leave and come back a day later chances are its not gonna be there. I use him to display my VIP pieces. So next time you see this guy there make you sure you don't leave him behind. Everyone head to Home Goods this weekend & see what you can find to give your jewelry a pretty debut. Let me know what you find! - XOXO

"Mad about Plaid"

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Pants: Loft
Favorite v-neck tee: Jc Penney
Heels: Vintage
Necklaces : Both from Forever21 (Similar here and here)
Blazer: H&M

I was shopping the other day and passed the window display of Loft & immediately did a double take. I had never shopped there before but saw some super cute things in the window so I decided to make my way in and take a look. I was so impressed & caught myself instantly picking up things up to try on. It kinda reminded me of a Jcrew (which I love) but with cheaper prices tags(which I love even more). I will say I didn't leave the store empty handed & Loft is slowly becoming one of my favorite places to shop. It has such great work dress attire as well as simple casual wear that you can wear everyday. I picked up these awesome statement plaid pants and since then I have been seeing plaid worn by so many. One things for sure celebs are mad about plaid! Could be a plaid scarf, skirt, blouse or flannel. Of course plaid has always been around but now its about how YOU style it. I Paired my plaid with an oversized tee and threw on a blazer to dress it up. If you want more of a grungy day look easy peasy just leave the blazer off. Add your flare of chunky jewelry and don't be scared to add a printed heel. Looking at this you would think this was just one big chunky necklace but it's actually two layered together. I felt like one necklace with this outfit wasn't enough. It is all about layering till you hit that perfect amount. These pants are a great for fall and can be mixed well with all the other great fall colors such as mustards & maroons. I can't wait to wear these again and style them a different way…so be on the lookout. Below are some looks with plaid that I've been totally crushing on. I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving. I know how blessed I am. I wake up everyday knowing what wonderful family &  friends I have. What are you feeling blessed about this Thanksgiving?

"Bow Ties & Sequins"

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Holiday festivities are near so you know what that means…time to start getting your sequins & black tie outfits in order. This is one time a year we can pull out our sequins and look super festive. Anyone who knows me knows that Free people has my heart. I look at their online website almost every single day to either browse ooo & awe or to create a list of wishes & wants. The other day they had a look book called the "Tuxedo Girl". I fell in love. Like really in LOVE. I wanted everything on that look book but my wallet on the other hand was not feeling the same way. I don't know about you but every year I stress on finding the perfect holiday outfit so my mind was instantly running wild with ideas. I was wondering how I could create this look with things I already had. I was on a hunt and in my own closet! After piles of clothes and hangers on the floor my outfit resulted in this. My very own little black tie affair. Makes you realize you have more in your closet than you may think you actually do. Get a look you like, could be from a magazine or Pintrest & see what you can come up with by mixing pieces that you already own. Shop your own closet! Not only does it save you money but time as well. Things may not be identical & thats ok, thats what makes it unique..it makes it you! I had the bow tie from a totally different shirt and just added it to the tux style button up. I did this look with two different blazers. The Black blazer to give it more of a Tuxedo girl look & the gold blazer to add more of a holiday girly festive look. Boyfriend Jeans took me awhile to adjust to. They are quite different from the snug fit  jeans that we are all used to but I have learned more & more outfit by outfit to simply adore them. Just because they are made to look like our brothers/boyfriends old jeans doesn't mean we women can't pull them off. I had a huge fear that I would look masculine in these but by learning how to add feminine blouses/blazers or statement jewelry it was quite the opposite.

When adding a colored lip I always try to wear minimal make up to allow all the focus to be on the lip. Thats right ladies, this means no eye shadows! If you must, try using a skin tone color and just line your eyes top& bottom with eye liner & smudge it out. My go to eye liner is Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner.  Perfect for you who have eyeliner that want to runway & disappear  throughout the day. Where you apply it is where it stays. Cat eye look with eyeliner looks bomb while pairing it with a colored lip. Bobbi Brown did no wrong with the shade Cosmic Raspberry go its not too pink and not too red!  I have heard of party's themed "Bow ties & Sequins" where the boys where the bow ties & girls rock the sequins well this just goes to show you us gals can rock both! Boo ya! This outfit is perfect for the holidays. Stand out by wearing it at your work Christmas party or family dinner. Regardless where you decided to wear it I am certain you will be turning heads. Own it! Muah! Hope you all are having a great week, it's almost thanksgiving & I'm feeling super blessed hope you all are too ;)

For the future Mrs.Livingston

Taking a break from my usual posts. I wanna share what I was up to this last weekend, but before I do let me try and show you how it all started….

After I graduated high school I moved to College Station for College, in those two years of living there I walked away with memories and friends that I will have for a lifetime. I was lucky enough to get a job working at my apartment complex Reveille Ranch where me and my best friend/roommate Kristin met two girls Caitlin & Chelsea who also worked there and happened to live right above us. The crazy part is they were not originally planning on living there as plans with another lease fell through which lead them to Reveille. It didn't take long before we were having endless sleep overs, breakup & heartbreak talks & drunken nights with early morning hang overs. Trust me there were lots of hangovers. Their friends quickly became our friends. We basically had formed a small knit group that resulted in pretty much every Friday and Saturday night outings/day time brunches. As every door closes this one eventually did. Once everyone started following their roadmap of life we all went our separate ways, I moved back to Katy & they made there way up to Dallas. I moved to College station not knowing who I would meet or what I would gain and in my re view mirror left a blur of memories & lifelong friends. When trying to think of certain times it's a mix of consistent laughing, nights out, crying, venting & nights of getting ready together. Crazy how you can pin point certain things or nights that took place but can only really remember things as if your life was played out in weeks instead of years. Still doing occasional visits to Dallas I would get to see them & of course phone calls to catch up on recent daily events but it still was a lot different from what we were used to. Regardless we never lost our friendships we had gained. Now here we are today. Caitlin is getting married! The "Why can't I just meet a good guy" questions have come to an end. She not only has met a good guy but a great one at that. Words can't express how happy I am for her & Lance.
So this past weekend we celebrated for our upcoming bride to be by having her bachelorette party of course. Boy did we celebrate all right. Friday night we just went to dinner and kinda caught up with everyone over mexican food. After dinner we went back to Tessie's house to relax and hang out. We needed plenty of rest to prepare ourselves for the next day. That morning we all took our time getting ready together before we headed to Caitlin's last bridal fitting. I was so happy to be able to see her in her dress since her and Lance are eloping. She looked so beautiful. I took some pictures but of course will not post till after her big day :) . The amount of love you could feel with us all being together with her slowly filled up that small alteration store.

After the fitting we rushed over to brunch at a bar/restaurant in uptown Dallas called Moth.
It was such a cute little place & we got our own section. We started if off right by ordering mimosas and looking over the menu.
This song came on in the restaurant causing me to instantly break into tears. It wasn't that the song was sad, to be honest I couldn't even tell you what the song was. It was simply tears of happiness, tears of us all being together again, tears that Caitlin was getting married! Like I mentioned before the amount of love in now the small corner of the restaurant was indescribable. We ordered our food(which was amazingly delicious) most of us got the same thing Chorizo & Fried Egg Risotto.
While waiting for our food each of us went around the table telling our favorite Caitlin story. Of course none of us had just one…we each had several. Laugher was constant around the table as everyone went on sharing memories we each held close to us about Caitlin. To our surprise Caitlin got every one of us a small something(I know right she's the only one who should be getting gifts) and a letter she hand wrote each of us. It was so sweet of her to think of us and do something like that. After brunch we headed over to get pedicures and manicures. Typical girl day & it was perfect.

We eventually headed to our Bungalow at Hotel ZaZa.
Beautiful isn't it?
Hey, we love you too!

It was insane how beautiful it was. The art in the room definitely inspired me for when I have my own house. We all got ready together like old times ordered some pizza & got the bachelorette festivities going. Caitlin opened her gifts and the drinking/shots & dancing began along with some other shenanigans ha! For knowing what exactly all took place you just had to be there.
Talk about a group of hot messes running from bar to bar. Way too much fun one could have in one night, the good thing is we all made it back safe. When we all woke up…we were in for a big treat. I will tell you a bunch of girls sure do know how to trash a room in one night. Lots and lots of cleaning took place in the morning but it left for an unforgettable night and an even more unforgettable weekend. Here is a video that sums up the weekend. I love you girls

Caitlin is someone I feel like I can go weeks, even months without speaking to one another and when we do talk it is as if nothing has changed between us. As I've gotten older I have realized that is the kind of real friendship every one needs…that very rare kind. Thank you for pouring laughter into my life when it was needed, installing guidance at times, for being an extra shoulder, shopping partner, listener, advice giver & downing drinks with me even if we were just sitting in our room. I am thankful for the beginning of our friendship but will be forever grateful for the in-betweens. I am so sad I can't be there on you're wedding day but I know what a beautiful bride you will make. I can only imagine how perfect of a day it will be. Thank you for allowing me to take part in such a wonderful time in your life. You are such an amazing person & even better friend, you have helped me get through some of the roughest times & I will always be here for you . I love you to the moon and back.

Kristin, Caitlin, Chelsea, Tessie, Jessica, Paige, Sarah,Raleigh, Bre, Danielle I will forever be blessed that God intertwined our life roadmaps. You all have grown up to be some of the most beautiful women I know and I'm lucky to know each and every one of you. I am excited to see what the future has in store for each of us.Thank you to everyone who came and made it a weekend to remember
from what we can remember ;)

I feel like I owe a huge huge thank you to Shannon McGriff. If it wasn't for you hiring Caitlin & Chelsea we possibly may have not met. Thank you. Also so the whole gang that worked at Reveille you all hold a special place in my heart to this day. I love you all. Ok I'm gonna go cry now. Feeling so unbelievably blessed. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
